commission info:

(report)' is based on the poem of the same name from Yaz's first/self-published collection of poems 'Big and Small and Black' (2016). The work was commissioned by NYU's Words & Sounds festival, which showcases student compositions based around creative usage of text. The work was premiered April 15th, 2017, at NYU's Provincetown Playhouse by Trent Ransom, Yaz Lancaster, Kyle Stalsberg, and Aya Terki.

program note:

The poem that the work is based on is an erasure, or 'black-out' of 17-year old Trayvon Martin's police report from the night of his murder on February 26, 2012 by George Zimmerman. The work is built of five miniatures, each acting as a snapshot of a moment in the events that are detailed by the police report. Premiered at NYU Steinhardt's Words & Sounds Concert on April 15, 2017 at NYU's Provincetown Playhouse.
